2017 CALENDAR OFFER…

Carol and Sweetie...

Carol and Sweetie…

Dear Friends of the Sanctuary,

This year we are very excited about our 2017 Calendar offer! We have included some of the wildlife from the area that have had the good fortune of not needing our help.

The final layout from the printers has been completed, and Sweetie was chosen to start the new year. She was less than three months old at the time the picture was taken.

Order early—there is a limited amount—all calendars ordered before November 15, 2016 will be sent on or before the first of December in time for Christmas. A perfect gift!

A LITTLE HELP FROM OUR FRIENDS…

I will be in St. Louis, MO mid-November for another AZA course. I will be learning how to design better areas where the permanent residents will spend their days outside in a more open area while giving them a more natural enrichment. I have been using the positive reinforcement training that I learned this past year to teach the animals to shift from one area to another for safe keeping during the night.

Please purchase an extra calendar to help me with my hotel expenses. I was able to hone my skills of squeezing dimes from nickels to pay for the course ($1,050) and for my airfare (DELTA $575), but I am running a little short for the hotel.

Next spring, I will attend my last class in Buffalo, NY and receive an AZA Animal Behavior Husbandry Certificate. The Sanctuary is advancing towards a more professional and well kept center where the animals have always come first. Please help us to continue our improvements.

REPAIRS TO THE TITI CAGE…

We wish to thank everyone that helped us with the Titi cage repairs. The new materials have been ordered and will be delivered the third week in November and the welding crew will be here after Carol’s return from her AZA class the first week of December.

We will be able to enlarge the cage by another 50% due to the overwhelming amount of people that pitched in to help the Titis!

We thank each and everyone of you for your much needed support to help us keep all of our animals—whether releasable or not—in the best conditions possible.

In October Carol had the honor of speaking at the SOAN Fall 2016 Colloquium Series at the Metropolitan State University of Denver. She also gave lectures to various classes and organizations and met with department heads and professors about study abroad programs and accredited independent studies and internships.

There was much interest generated among the students as well. We are already working with a student and her professors for a future weather station at the Sanctuary.

Dr. Ting Jiang, Associate Professor of Sociology awarded Carol with a Certificate of Appreciation.

ROSIE HUGS…

Rosie hugs...

Rosie hugs…

Rosie is ‘low man‘ amongst the spider monkeys. On occasion she is chased away from the food bowl, given a hurtful nip or pushed out of a favorite resting place.

She is rightfully offended and puts out a pitiful woe is me cry.

She is quickly comforted when I allow a little hugging between us. Soon, all is forgotten and she goes her merry way.

THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
